Care Recommendations

Fertilizer:

Use specialized acidic feriilizer (like Holly tone 10-6-4 at half rate or cottonseed meal, apply early April and after flowering

Mulch:

Appply 2-4" layer of pine needles, pine bark chips, leaf mold, or shredded bark

Keep watered, mulch, make sure soil is acidic, feed in early spring, prune rarely and then only dead or damaged branches

Long Term:

Winter:

Ensure plant is thoroughly hydrated before fground freezes, needs 2-4" layer of mulch, wrap if in exposed areas to prevent 'winter burn'

Spring:

Apply fertilizer in early spring when flower buds begin to swell, refresh mulch, ensure consistent moisture, strip faded flowers, prune only dead or damaged branches, monitor for pests

Summer:

Ensure consistent moisture, protect from afternoon sun, make sure mulched

Fall:

Keep deep watering until ground freezes, 2-4" layer of mulch applied, avoid any pruning
