Give full sun, water only during long dry spells, needs excellent drainage, top dress with compost in early spring, cut old stems back to ground in early spring, divide every 3-4 years

Ensure soil is well-drained, withhold water. do no prune, mulch with straw if very cold winter

Spring:

Prune diseased, dead, damaged leaves, apply light balanced slow-release formulation like a 14-14-14, divide clumps if needed, keep soil on dry side

Water deeply once a week, give full sun, do not fertilize, no pruning

Fall:

Reduce water drastically. clean up dead stems
