Fertilizer:

Add 2-3" compost at planting, then a flower specific fertilizer (like a 5-10-5 NPK) every 4-6 weeks early spring and mid-summer

Mulch:

Apply 2" layer of compost or shredded bark annually in spring and fall

Provide fertilizer in spring, keep soil moist

Deadhead and mulch if not done in fall, keep soil moist

Spring:

Cut back dead or damaged winter foliage to ground level, apply corganic compost for mulch, feed in early spring with a well-balanced slow release fertilizer, divide if needed, keep soil evenly moist in spring if dry
