Not really needed but may use slow-release specialized succulent fertilizer once in spring

Gravel, lava rock, or coarse compost

Provide full sun, well-drained soil, minimal watering, fertilize lightly in spring, prune dead leaves

Water once a month, consider covering crown with a tarp if ice is a problem

Spring:

Water deeply then allowing soil to dry, apply balanced fertilizer, prune dead leaves

Summer:

Make sure plant has full sun, well-drained soil, water every few weeks allowing soil to dry between watering, remove dead leaves close to trunk

Fall:

Lessen watering to monthly, prepare for winter by mulching but keeping it away from base of trunk
