Medium
Fertilizer:

Mulch:
Mulch 2-4" around base of plant to keep roots cool
Prune down to 1 foot the first couple of seasons.
Long Term:
Winter:
Pruning should be completed in late winter or early spring when buds begin to swell but
stems have not yet started to grow. Prune out
any weak and dead stems, and cut back
remaining stems to a pair of strong, healthy
buds. How far back you cut the stems will be
determined by your use. This group will often
flower on new wood again in late summer
or fall.
Spring:
Once buds begin to swell, trim away dead, weak, or diseased wood, cujt remaining stems back to a pair of strong healthy buds located about 23-36" from th ground, spread a 2-3" layer of organic compost or bark mulch around base
Summer:
Keep roots cool, water deeply and consistently providing 1" of water per week, strip faded flowers and seed heads, trim stems to first pair of strong buds
Fall:
Avoid heavy pruning, mulch base with 2-4" layer if organic mulch or shredded leaves, clean up debris, secure vine to trellis, fence, or support structure
General Care Comments:
Plant in full sun to part shade, give well-drained slightly alkaline soil, deeply water to establish then reduce, apply 2-4"mulch, provide a trellis, arbor, or fence line, fertilize regularly in soring
